A Brief Profile
Karnataka State Rifle Association was founded in 1960 by a group of Shooting enthusiast to provide a platform to shooters to pursue their hobby. The present Karnataka State Rifle Association was founded under the Guidance of Late Shr. Nagaraj Rao Jagdale during the 4th National Games 1997. The Association has established its office and the ranges at the Sports Authority of India Campus on Mysore Road, Bangalore.
The present Association is equipped with modern facilities at all their shooting ranges for various events in different categories, at the Sports Authority of India Complex. It provides a suitable platform for shooters to practice and improve in their respective categories.
KSRA has one indoor range of 10mtrs for Air Rifle and Air pistol and two outdoor ranges of 50M and 25 M, other than that it also has a range for Trap & Skeet at the Sports Authority of India Complex. All the ranges are as per the international Standards equipped with state of art Electronic Targets to provide accurate score keeping for all shooters representing Karnataka at national and International Level Competition.
Since the conception of modern KSRA a lot of National Level and International Level shooters have trained at the facilities provided at the ranges managed by the association. The association is also equipped with up to date weapons and ammunition to help shooters improve their talents to international standards.
KSRA also gives opportunity to new shooters to explore their talent by Providing training to them under the Civilian Rifle Training Program all around the year. The atmosphere provide at the facility is friendly and new shooters prosper under the guidance of the more renowned and experienced shooters. Karnataka State Rifle association organize various State Level Competition to provide the launchpad to shooters for pursuing a career in Shooting Sports.
KSRA is the link between State Shooters and National Rifle Association of India to which we are affiliated and this gives the shooters a chance to represent Karnataka at a National Level.
Range and Facilities
Sports Authority of India, undertook up a mega-plan to upgrade the existing Shooting Ranges at Shri. Jagdale N Radhakrishna Shooting Range, SAI South. All the three ranges - 50m, 25m and 10m indoor ranges were re-designed and built to match International standards with addition of modern equipment, to benefit the sports shooting fraternity. During the year end of 2008, which was also post 52nd N.S.C.C., the renovation started.
With this new development, the facilities offered by K.S.R.A. towards improving Sports Shooting in Karnataka is greatly benefitted. Some of the key improvements to be noted are:
- Merge all the three ranges - 50m, 25m & 10m ranges with easy access to monitor and conduct shooting programs.
- Upgrade of target and other facilities to match International standards, making the K.S.R.A. shooting one of India's best.
- Restructure the complex to better accommodate shooters, shooters' changing area, spectator area, gun & equipment control area, etc.
Civilian Rifle Training Course (CRTC)
K.S.R.A. organizes a 6 days-Classes, Civilian Rifle Training Course to introduce safe-handling and use of shooting equipment, in various disciplines. The course is for 6 Classes over the weekend (Friday, Saturday & Sunday) introduces civilians to various techniques of shooting, rules to be obeyed for safe gun handling, etc. This course has been made mandatory by the Commissioner of Police, Bangalore, for procurement of Arms License. A Certificate is provided after successful completion of the Course. After the completion of Course, the shooters can apply for Membership with KSRA. It is important a shooter is member of KSRA for them to pursue sports shooting at the professional level.
Membership
Karnataka State Rifle Association has various Memberships available for shooters to apply for. For applying for the Membership, one must complete the CRTC training from KSRA. The members can access the range whole week from Tuesday to Sunday from (7.30 Am to 4.30 pm). The Members also get chance to participate in the State Meet organized by Karnataka State Rifle Association if they get the Minimum Qualifying Score they can go to the next level of competition and represent Karnataka.
